His Spoken Word
by April
The liquid seeped through the pages, red in color it dripped onto the floor, for this word from God was bought with a price. One man alone, Jesus, on the cross endured the suffering for all. Others, used of God, would follow, martyred and betrayed, to allow the spoken Word of God to prevail.
God spoke and the world was created, he breathed and life began. God’s word is alive, from everlasting to everlasting, discerning, for correction and entrusted to us for his divine purpose to be fulfilled. In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. You cannot separate God from his word for they are one. God is the same yesterday, today and forever. The word of God is precious and life giving, full of inspiration and hope for the future. It is perfect and complete and addresses all issues in life. It was preserved and passed down, as was the Israelites heritage.
Deuteronomy 11:18 “Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates, so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the Lord swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.”
We must meditate on his word daily for this is our spiritual food which will build up our spirit man inside of us. Building ourselves up on our most holy faith will enable us to go out into the world and share the gospel and do the Great Commission. We must teach our children about our godly heritage and so they themselves will choose wisely when they are older.
The word of God is discerning and alive. It is the only truth in our world today. Hebrews 4:12 says “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” When God spoke, his words full of power and alive immediately became what was spoken. Today we can have the same, if we will speak his word over every situation in this life, we are victorious through Christ Jesus and the word enables us to fulfill his direction for our life. The word is discerning and does know our thoughts and motives before we do.
2 Timothy 3:16
“All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” The Bible shows us where we have erred; it teaches us about God and equips us for his ministry on Earth through us. If you read the Bible without being consistant to study it, you will get nothing from it. However, if you allow God to open up the scriptures and unlock the mysteries of the word while being alone with him, you will realize the Bible is all we need for today.
God’s word should so permeate our being that it is part of us as God is part of us.
When something dwells in you- it makes itself at home with you. It is part of you no matter what you are doing. You eat with it, and drink with it and live with it.
Colossians 3:16 Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.
We take so much for granted today in America. We have the freedom of religion and the freedom to read our Bibles and the freedom to pray and seek God with our whole hearts but we do not. Many people have died and faced great persecution to make sure that today we have a Bible and easily have access to God’s word. One such man was John Wycliffe, known as the “Bible Translator”. He was a scholar in the 1300’s in England who understood and associated with the common people and truly desired that everyone have the opportunity to have a personal relationship with God. He successfully translated the Bible from Latin to English and for this, he gave his life.
In his own words he says, I profess and claim to be by the grace of God a sound (that is, a true and orthodox) Christian and while there is breath in my body I will speak forth and defend the law of it. I am ready to defend my convictions even unto death.
Since God’s word is complete, it will never fail and we will not either as long as we abide in Christ. Isaiah 55:11 “So is my word that goes out from my mouth: It will not return to me empty but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.”
Once spoken God’s word does not fail and so we can rest assured if the promise is in the Bible it will come to pass. This may not be in our impatient timeline but it will happen.
God’s word has been entrusted to us, Christ’s faithful followers. We must persevere and not give up; we must fight the good fight of faith and study to show ourselves approved.
Jude 1:3“Dear friends, although I was very eager to write to you about the salvation we share, I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints.” The definition of “entrusted” is “to give over to another for care, protection or performance; to give as a trust to someone as a duty or responsibility.
It is our job to defend and protect God’s word. We must staunchly defend Christian truth so others will see and hear and believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. His word existed throughout time, and is for today, it is discerning and the absolute truth. His word is suitable for correction and will achieve his purpose for this world. We are part of this awesome plan if we will choose today to accept the responsibility entrusted to us.
God’s word will never fail; we must speak it, read it, study it and apply it today.
